Join the Toronto Chapter for a tour of  the Magna NRC Composites Centre of Excellence, a new innovative partnership between Magna International Inc. and National Research Council Canada (NRC) supporting the Canadian automotive industry in developing next-generation vehicles with lighter, more durable parts that are safe, affordable, environmentally friendly and fuel efficient.  The Magna-NRC Composites Centre of Excellence is equipped with leading-edge moulding equipment for polymer composites.  This provides the teams from Magna Exteriors and Interiors, an operating unit of Magna International Inc., and the NRC Industrial Materials Institute with the tools needed to work together on developing lightweight and durable automotive parts using composites such as Direct Long Fibre Thermoplastics (D-LFT), High Pressure Resin Transfer  Moulding (HP-RTM) and Sheet Moulding Compound (SMC).  These technologies have been identified as the best prospects for reducing the weight of structural car parts, making them more fuel efficient and affordable.

TOOLING SOLUTIONS FOR ADVANCED HIGH STRENGTH STEELS

With increasing demand for use of high strength steels in automotive and other sheet metal forming operations, the need for enhanced tooling solutions has never been more evident.  This presentation will provide participants with insights into how to tweak their current stamping processes to improve service life and alleviate some of these tooling challenges.
