Nominate your Apprentices for a Bursary Award!!

We are pleased to announce our 2nd Annual Bursary Award Program. The objective of the bursary awards is to recognize and provide encouragement to Apprentices. The awards will translate into more awareness of the value of apprenticeship training and skilled trades, as well as an improved tooling and machining industry for Canada. WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

The new program is open to all Apprentices that are employed by CTMA member companies. Member companies may nominate up to two apprentices each year for the committee’s consideration.

WHAT WILL APPRENTICES RECEIVE?

Selected recipients will receive a bursary award of at least $1,000.00 as well as a selection of tools and other trade-related items (dependant on the level of sponsorship received).

SUPPORT FOR APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING & BURSARY AWARDS

You can tangibly express your support for apprenticeship training by making a financial donation to the George H. Shaffer Education Fund which was established in 1994 to support and encourage apprenticeship training. George Shaffer was one of the association’s founding members and, as President of Hartford Technology Ltd., he had a passion for apprenticeship training. Interest generated from the endowment fund is used to support the Bursary Awards which will assist and encourage the recipients to continue their apprenticeship training.

The CTMA is pleased to announce we will be hosting the association’s 14^th Annual Shotgun Golf Tournament on Tuesday, June 5^th, 2012 at the Pine Knot Golf & Country Clubin Dorchester, Ontario. This successful event has attracted a large number of people from the tool, die, mould, pattern and machining industries since it began and we expect this year’s event to be a sell-out once again! The day will begin with a Putting Contest and Registration starting at 9:00am, followed by the shotgun tournament at 10:30am and a boxed-lunch. The 19^th Hole Reception on the clubhouse terrace, a steak dinner and the awards presentation will complete the day.

Chapter for a tour of the Tigercat facility in Cambridge where they design and build premium quality, purpose-built forestry equipment for felling, transporting, processing and loading tree-length and cut-to-length timber. Tour participants will have the opportunity to tour the fabrication and assembly facility for Tigercat’s 600 series of skidders, 700 series of feller buhchers, mulchers and forwarders. Samco Machinery Plant Tour & Dinner Meeting

Join the Toronto Chapter on Nov. 23/11 for a tour of Samco Machinery Ltd., a global leader in the manufacture of precision roll forming equipment since 1972 including uncoilers, decoilers, roll form dies and presses. Samco provides a full range of roll forming solutions for the steel building construction, automotive, HVAC, and furniture industries around the globe. Samco has also combined its metal roll forming expertise and know-how to become a leading fabricator in PV solar panel mounts used in a variety of solar power applications. The tool room is a self sufficient department dedicated to the die making aspects of the Samco machinery. They have wire EDMs, milling machines, cylindrical grinders and a newly acquired CNC machining center. The tour through Samco’s 80,000 sq. ft. expansive facility will include a look at their in-house manufacturing as well as their tooling, machining and metal fabricating capabilities.

Networking, cocktails and dinner will follow the tour along with a presentation entitled “SQUEEZING THE MOST FROM YOUR RESOURCES” by Nabeel Khan, Director of Tacteco Solutions Inc. Energy is a resource and it needs to be managed just like any other. It can be overwhelming exploring methods to reduce your energy consumption and lower your costs in a marketplace that is inundated with possibilities. During this presentation, Nabeel will discuss possible solutions and pitfalls of implementation – all in an effort to do more with less.
